About Writer's Hook

Where every writer begins…

At Writer's Hook, we are dedicated to bringing teen writers together in an all day event in the Bay Area. Our mission is to encourage and inspire teens to write freely, to express their creativity and ideas, and to develop the craft of writing.

According to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the number of students majoring in the humanities has declined by 30% since 2012.

Evidence suggests that students in 8th through 12th grade struggle to write proficiently at their grade level. Research published by the National Library of Medicine found that 75% of students fall in this category.

Most writing programs are inaccessible to many teens due to cost and limited spaces.

These are the very reasons we want a space for all teens to develop and deepen their writing skills in a safe, fun, and supportive environment.

  • Alisha Shetty

    I'm a senior and the president and founder of the Creative Writing Club at my high school. I am also an alumni of the 2025 Sarah Lawrence Writer's Week, Iowa Young Writers' Studio Winter 2025 Online Course, and the 2026 Kenyon Young Writers Summer Residential Workshop. I enjoy reading YA novels and manga. My favorite genres to write about are fantasy and realistic fiction. I want to use Writer's Hook to help other young writers gain similar experiences and tools I've received in my writing journey.

    Hi, I'm Sid, a sophomore at Archbishop Mitty HS in San Jose. I am a STEM lover and robot nerd. I'm on Mitty's FRC team and part of nearly every engineering-based club at Mitty. Most of my free time goes into working on various types of projects, the most recent ones being an automated paper trader and an APUSH study app. I also love to play guitar and cook; it helps me relax. As much as I love AI, I value human creativity even more. I love how Writer's Hook provides writers with an opportunity to write for the love of it, not just for a school assignment.

    Hi! I'm a senior at Notre Dame San Jose. I love reading, and a few of my favorite genres are mystery, science fiction and historical fiction. Additionally, I love writing, all the way from poetry to research papers to novels. Outside of reading and writing, you can find me doing audio, learning languages, researching military planes, coding websites and games and long-distance running, all ways that I use to further explore and express my creativity. Being able to help out with this write-a-thon that inspires other young people to discover and relish in the joy of writing is something I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of. I can't wait to see how the event turns out and I hope to see you there!

    Hello! I am a sophomore in high school and I am currently a part of Notre Dame's Robotics Team. I am also the treasure of our school's Creative Writing Club. I love reading in my free time; I can spend hours just reading and being pulled into the fantastical world authors have created. My love for stories led me to join the Creative Writing Club, helping me grow my writing skills while bringing my stories to life. Now I hope to bring this experience to other aspiring writers through the Writer's Hook.

    What's up! I am a sophomore at Notre Dame High School who loves to read AND write! I even wrote my first ever play over my summer before sophomore year called Council Meeting, which centers on a single student council meeting of unique middle schoolers pitching fundraisers in presentations with their own pizazz! I also have been the secretary of the Creative Writing Club here at ND since I was a Freshman and have been a Potterhead and Hunger Games Tribute since I was in sixth grade! I hope my love for writing and creativity rubs off on other young writers at Writer's Hook and can't wait to read more wonderful stories!
